Service to Society
The Project for Disseminating the Study of Law was originally a student activity under the name of the “Legal Studies” club. Following the 6 October 1976 incident, the Legal Studies Club was disbanded. However, the Faculty of Law recognised the project’s value for students and society as a whole, and re-established it as the Project for Disseminating the Study of Law on 30 November 1978.
In its first phase, the Project for Disseminating the Study of Law was under the supervision of the Professional Development Committee of the Faculty of Law. Later, the Faculty of Law decided that there should be a dedicated agency responsible for services to society. Therefore, it established the Law Centre to perform this duty. In addition to overseeing the Project for Disseminating the Study of Law, the Law Centre has the following objectives:
- Disseminate legal knowledge and provide legal assistance to the public.
- Instruct students in practical legal skills and ethical conduct in the legal profession.
- Train and instil in students a sense of responsibility for promoting justice in society.
- Research and study legal issues in society.
Currently, the Law Centre has 3 offices for providing legal assistance to the public: Thammasat University Tha Prachan, Thammasat University Rangsit Campus, and Thammasat University Lampang Campus.
Legal Services for the Public
Currently, the Law Centre offers legal services to the public in three main areas:

1. Dissemination of Legal Knowledge.
The Law Centre disseminates legal knowledge to the public, particularly to people in rural areas, through short-term legal training programmes for local leaders and by distributing legal books to the general public. Moreover, the Law Centre also runs legal training and holds academic seminars to exchange knowledge and share understanding of interesting legal issues.

2. Assistance to the Public in Litigation.
In this area, the Law Centre has established an office for legal assistance to the public in the Faculty of Law, Thammasat University, in Tha Prachan, the Rangsit Campus and the Lampang Campus. In the event of a dispute, the office will arrange for lawyers to assist in the litigation process free of charge. The provision of assistance is subject to the following conditions:
- The person must be unable to afford to hire a lawyer to bring a case to court.
- The person must not have received fair treatment in relation to the dispute.
- The person must not have been involved in the commission of a crime.
- The case must not be related to family issues, except for cases related to child support claims.
- The case, in terms of both the law and the facts, must provide grounds for assistance.

3. Legal Consultation.
In this area, the office provides legal consultation services to the public through lawyers and legal advisors. If anyone has any legal problems or queries, they can seek legal advice from the office.

The Law Centre has three missions related to students:
- Project for Practical Legal Training: This project is run to enhance the knowledge, skills, and experience of third- and fourth-year undergraduate law students through real-world practice. It aims to prepare students for work in the legal professions in the future. The Law Centre collaborates with various public and private sector organisations to provide students with placement opportunities for approximately two months during the break between semesters. Additionally, the Law Centre conducts visits to the organisations where students are training each year to collect feedback from previous students. This information is shared with future students to help them consider suitable placement organisations.
2. Project for Preparing Law Students for Legal Careers: This project organises training programmes to prepare students for licence exams, both the theoretical and practical parts. The trainers include consultants, lawyers, and legal experts from the Law Centre, alumni of the Faculty of Law who are practicing law professionally, together with experts from external organisations.
3. Project to Involve Students in Providing Legal Services to the Public. In meetings to consider providing legal assistance in litigation, students are rotated to participate in discussions, offer opinions, and suggest legal points related to the case. This helps train students to apply their academic knowledge to cases that have arisen in society. Additionally, in other projects, such as disseminating legal knowledge to the public and organising academic seminars, students are involved as speakers, presenting basic legal knowledge alongside lawyers and legal officers. They also analyse interesting legal issues in society to organise seminars or academic conferences.
