About the Criminal Law and Criminology Centre
The Criminal Law and Criminology Centre is an academic unit of the Faculty of Law, Thammasat University. Originally, it was called the ‘Department,’ but later the Faculty of Law considered that the role of a department was limited, and therefore what was originally called the “Department of Criminal Law and Criminology” became the “Criminal Law and Criminology Centre” on 28 May 2018.
The main mission of the Criminal Law and Criminology Centre is to administer courses for which it is responsible on programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate (master’s and doctoral) levels offered by the Faculty of Law. It has the duty of selecting lecturers for the consideration of the programme committees, together with the development of academic knowledge in the field of criminal law and criminology. Faculty members are responsible for teaching, research, disseminating knowledge, and in particular for serving as thesis advisors and giving legal advice.
Full-time faculty members at the Criminal Law and Criminology Centre produce outstanding academic work including research and textbooks, together with law books that are widely accepted, including by various government agencies, and have been appointed as committee members in various government agencies such as the Council of State, the National Justice Administration Development Committee, the Committee on the Prevention and Suppression of Torture and Enforced Disappearance, etc.
In addition, to disseminate knowledge to the wider public, the Criminal Law and Criminology Centre has a Facebook Page called “Criminal Law and Criminology Centre” (https://www.facebook.com/ThammasatCriminalLaw/) to regularly disseminate legal knowledge.
Social Services of the Criminal Law and Criminology Centre
In addition to the educational mission in relation to the programmes, the Criminal Law and Criminology Centre also has a mission to organise academic activities to spread knowledge regularly to society, through at least four academic discussions each year, as follows:
- “Project to Honor Law Teachers: Professor Dr. Yut Saeng-Uthai Memorial” which is held on the last Saturday of April.
- “Economic Crime Seminar” which is part of the educational activities of course Nor. 723 Economic Crime on the Master of Laws programme of the Faculty of Law, Thammasat University, which is held at the end of the first semester.

In addition to organising annual seminars, the Criminal Law and Criminology Centre also organises seminars to bring knowledge to society at appropriate occasions, such as seminars on legal issues related to abortion, problems with examining non-prosecution orders of the public prosecutor, etc.
